Hell Let Loose Vietnam Vehicles: Tanks, Patrol Boats & Anti-Tank
Beyond the helicopters, Vietnam fields ground armour, the series’ first patrol boats, and the anti-tank play that answers both. Verified against launch materials; per-vehicle stat tables are added as confirmed. Last updated: August 14, 2026.
Armour in the jungle era
Vietnam-era armour plays differently from the WWII game’s tank duels:
- Dense terrain compresses engagement ranges — armour works as infantry support on roads and clearings rather than long-range sniping.
- The era’s asymmetry shows: US armour superiority vs NVA armour that appears in numbers on specific maps (“nva tanks” is a real search for a reason), plus VC ambush AT tactics.
- Crew roles (driver / gunner / commander) carry over from the series — a solo tank is a dead tank.
Patrol boats
The genuinely new vehicle class. On river-delta maps, armed patrol boats:
- Move squads and supplies along water lanes faster than any land route,
- Mount serious firepower against shore positions,
- Die to concentrated AT from prepared banks — boat routes are ambushable, which is the balancing loop.
The $2.49 boat-crew uniform DLCs (US and NVA) are cosmetics for exactly this play style — cosmetic only, covered in Field Supplies.
Anti-tank play
- Dedicated AT roles carry the era’s rocket and recoilless weapons; the WWII game’s “AT pairs hunt armor” doctrine still applies.
- Mines on road chokes and used boat landings pay off across a whole match.
- Against helicopters, AT is the wrong tool — massed small arms and AA guns are the counter (details).
