Hell Let Loose Vietnam Beginner Guide: How to Play

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is not a run-and-gun shooter: it is a 50v50 logistics-and-teamwork game where individual aim matters less than squad cohesion. If you are new to the series, this is the on-ramp. Last updated: August 14, 2026.

Before your first match

  1. Fix your settings — turn on push to talk and check your keybinds saved (settings guide — there is a launch bug worth knowing about).
  2. Pick Rifleman — full kit, no squad-slot pressure, and the game’s flow makes sense from the middle of an infantry squad (role overview).
  3. Join a squad with a talking officer — scroll the squad list; a squad with active voice is worth ten silent ones.

The one concept that explains everything

Matches are won by spawn logistics, not kills. Sectors fall when attackers can spawn near the fight and defenders cannot. Everything meaningful — officer garrisons, US helicopter LZs, NVA/VC tunnels, supply drops — exists to place or deny spawn points. Once you see the game this way, every order makes sense.

Mistakes that wipe new squads

  1. Spawning on a hot garrison the enemy is already clearing — check the map first.
  2. Fighting through the jungle’s obvious lanes — the factions guide explains why prepared ambushes own predictable routes.
  3. Ignoring tunnel sweeps as US forces — “cleared” ground is not cleared (tunnels).
  4. Flying a helicopter before practising — you will kill six teammates learning collective control.
